Description
Common Name: Alocasia Cuprea
Scientific Name: Alocasia cuprea
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch its metallic leaves. Too little light may reduce growth and dull the unique copper sheen.
Water:
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil is dry. Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Ensure excellent drainage, as Alocasias are highly sensitive to overwatering and root rot.
Humidity:
Thrives in high humidity. A humidifier or humidity tray is strongly recommended. Low humidity can cause crispy leaf edges and slow growth.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–27°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C, as this plant is very sensitive to cold stress.
Soil:
Use a chunky, well-draining mix (potting soil, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir). This ensures airflow to the roots while retaining balanced moisture.
Fertilizer:
Feed every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding in winter.
Pruning:
Remove yellowing or damaged leaves at the base to encourage new growth and maintain plant health.
Toxicity:
Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
