Description

Common Name: Begonia Ice Caps
Scientific Name: Begonia rex ‘Ice Caps’

Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves and reduce contrast in the variegation. Insufficient light may cause weaker colour and slower growth.

Water:
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil is dry. Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Rex Begonias are sensitive to overwatering, which can quickly lead to root rot.

Humidity:
Thrives in high humidity. Use a humidifier or humidity tray to maintain consistent moisture levels in the air. Avoid misting directly onto leaves, as this can cause spotting and fungal issues.

Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–26°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.

Soil:
Use a well-draining, airy potting mix (peat-based with perlite or coco coir). The soil should retain slight moisture while still allowing good drainage and airflow.

Fertilizer:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding during winter.

Pruning:
Remove damaged or dying leaves to maintain appearance and encourage new growth. Pinch back leggy stems to keep the plant compact and full.

Toxicity:
Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
