Description
Common Name: Begonia Autumn Embers
Scientific Name: Begonia rex ‘Autumn Embers’
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the vibrant foliage. Insufficient light may cause fading colours and slower growth.
Water:
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil is dry. Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Overwatering can quickly lead to root rot.
Humidity:
Thrives in high humidity. Use a humidity tray or humidifier to maintain consistent moisture in the air. Avoid misting directly onto the leaves to prevent spotting and disease.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–26°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Soil:
Use a well-draining, light potting mix (peat-based with perlite or coco peat) to retain slight moisture while allowing excess water to drain.
Fertilizer:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding during winter.
Pruning:
Remove damaged or dying leaves regularly to maintain appearance and encourage fresh growth. Pinch back stems if needed to keep a compact shape.
Toxicity:
Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
