Description
Common Name: Begonia Inca Flame
Scientific Name: Begonia rex ‘Inca Flame’
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and fade the intense colouration. Too little light may reduce vibrancy and slow growth.
Water:
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil is dry. Keep soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. Rex Begonias are highly sensitive to overwatering and poor drainage.
Humidity:
Thrives in high humidity. Use a humidifier or humidity tray to maintain stable moisture levels. Avoid misting directly onto leaves, as this can cause spotting and fungal issues.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–26°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Soil:
Use a well-draining, airy potting mix (peat-based with perlite or coco coir). Soil should retain light moisture while allowing excess water to drain freely.
Fertilizer:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding during winter.
Pruning:
Remove damaged or dying leaves to maintain appearance and encourage fresh growth. Pinch back leggy growth to keep the plant compact and full.
Toxicity:
Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
