Description
Common Name: Hoya Australis
Scientific Name: Hoya australis
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some direct morning or late afternoon sun, which can encourage flowering. Low light will slow growth and reduce the chance of blooming.
Water:
Water when the soil has mostly dried out. Hoyas prefer to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering, as they are prone to root rot.
Humidity:
Prefers moderate to high humidity but adapts well to typical indoor conditions. Higher humidity promotes healthier foliage and increased flowering potential.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Soil:
Use a very well-draining, airy mix (orchid bark, perlite, and potting soil). Good airflow around the roots is essential.
Fertilizer:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer. A bloom-boosting fertilizer can be used occasionally during active growth.
Pruning:
Minimal pruning required. Trim vines only to control shape or encourage bushier growth.
Toxicity:
Mildly toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
