Description
Common Name: Variegated String of Hearts
Scientific Name: Ceropegia woodii variegata
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some gentle direct morning sun, which enhances variegation and promotes compact, dense growth. Insufficient light will cause longer, sparse vines and reduced pink/cream colouring.
Water:
Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. Water thoroughly, then allow excess to drain. Highly drought-tolerant due to tuberous roots—overwatering is the most common issue.
Humidity:
Adapts well to low to average indoor humidity. No special humidity requirements.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 10–12°C.
Soil:
Use a very well-draining mix such as cactus soil blended with perlite, pumice, or sand. Excellent drainage is essential to prevent tuber and root rot.
Fertilizer:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Light feeding is sufficient.
Pruning:
Trim long vines to encourage fuller growth. Pruned cuttings can be propagated easily.
Toxicity:
Generally considered non-toxic to pets and humans.
